The mysterious disease of a girl, an impotent mother against the condition, a spooky ghost town full of secrets and which is always surrounded by the fog are some of the elements that are part of this strange story, and the mystery is only beginning.
Rose (performed by Radha Mitchell) and her husband Christopher (performed by Sean Bean) are concerned for the strange disease of their adoptive daughter Sharon which has started to show signs of somnambulism. “Silent Hill” are the words she screams desperately on every nightmare. Rose decides to investigate which is exactly the meaning for that name and she finds records of a strange town with that name, Rose decides to take her daughter to this town in order to find the source for those strange nightmares notwithstanding the opposition of Christopher to the idea, since this place has the reputation of being a ghost town.
Rose arrives to the town being followed by a police officer who had suspicions in relation to the behavior of the mother, during the chase both of them have an accident, and when Rose awakes, she finds out that her daughter is gone.
Rose begins the search through the empty streets of the town shouting the name of her daughter, soon she will realize that Silent Hill is different from every other town she has seen with ashes falling as they were snowflakes, all she can find is a variety of strange and horrible creatures and a woman in rags with the name of Dahlia Gillespie who speaks about the terrible things that her daughter, Alessa, was victim of. Those terrible things were caused by the people of Silent Hill.
Dahlia claims to be the real mother of Sharon, moments after this meeting, Rose meets again the police officer from who she ran off, Cybil Bennet, and the officer arrests Rose immediately. From that moment they follow the quest together after discovering that the only way out from the town has mysteriously disappeared. They are constantly attacked by strange and hideous creatures.
At the same time, Christopher arrives to the town accompanied by other officer looking for any trace of his wife and daughter, although Rose and Christopher for moments seem to be walking by the same place they are unable to see each other, both landscapes are so different from each other, one is covered with the light of the afternoon, while the other is covered by the fog.
